Make an arcade game!
What's better than playing a video game? Making a video game! Lasercade will be closed to the public on Mondays. We will be having 8 week, 1.5 hour classes Monday evenings to teach you how to make a video game. Plus, as a perk of taking our class, you get to play the games in the arcade room for free before/after your class! We'll call it studying...
Classes will run for eight weeks. You will learn art, animation, music and level design including some light programming. You will choose the type of game you want to make from a list of popular categories including 2D platformer (like Mario), endless runner style games, and more. You will use many different software programs including the Godot game engine to make the game, Bosca Ceoil for music, Krita and Inscape for art.
We will be there to help you every step of the way, so don't be afraid! And if you're not interested in an area or not happy with your work, no worries there either! We have free art, animations, and music to use in your games.
You are not limited to the 1.5 hour class period to work on your game. During your 8 week session, you are welcome to stop by anytime Lasercade is open to work on anything you would like. (this time is without instruction)
At the end of the eight weeks is our exciting showcase event! Student admission is free. Nonstudents pay one price to attend and play all of the students' games in the arcade all night long! There will be voting in several categories including most fun, best art, and best overall game. There will also be high score tournaments. We will give away many prizes including gift cards to Lasercade.
The winning game will be added to the arcade! The student who made the game can play their game for free every time they visit Lasercade!
We'll email you more info on cost & available discounts, when classes start & how to sign up.
